WHO WE ARE
The Akoo Foundation was born from a simple conviction: families thrive when their communities thrive.
When William Akoo and his wife, Erin, traveled to Kenya shortly before their marriage, what began as a trip to return home and visit family became something much more. As they spent time in the communities William grew up around, the Lord pierced their hearts with the deep needs they encountered, alongside the undeniable resilience, hope, and potential within the people themselves.
At the same time, they became increasingly aware of the open hands, generous hearts, and willingness to help that surrounded them back in the United States. God began to reveal how the needs of communities in Kenya could be met through relationships, resources, and partnerships formed across both countries. That first trip marked a turning point.
What followed were small but meaningful service projects: installing water gutter systems, improving restroom facilities, and supporting local leaders, which brought immediate and tangible change. Families no longer spent hours collecting water. Students could focus on learning instead of health challenges.
Dignity was restored.
Although The Akoo Foundation was officially established in 2025, its mission was well underway long before. At its core, The Akoo Foundation is about faithfulness: listening, returning, and responding with humility as God continues to open doors and lead the work forward.
Today, William and Erin reside in Kansas City, Missouri, which serves as the organization’s home base. From there, The Akoo Foundation operates as a bridge between communities in the United States and Western Kenya: committed to stewardship, sustainability, and walking alongside communities for the long haul.
